Orthopaedics is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Here at Hervey Bay Surgical Hospital we perform a wide variety of  orthopaedic procedures from minor day surgery to major surgery requiring over night to short stay admission to our surgical ward.

Types of surgery performed

Hands –  including release of trigger finger, carpal tunnel release, release of Dupuytrens contracture

Upper Limb - Shoulders – This includes rotator cuff repairs, soft tissue damage repairs, unstable shoulder repairs, total shoulder replacement and arthroscopy.

Hips – Hip replacement, resurfacing procedures and revision hip surgery.

Knees – Knee replacement, arthroscopy and revision knee surgery.

Foot and ankle - This includes ligament repairs, Achilles tendon repairs , tendon repairs and reconstruction, fore foot reconstruction and excision of bunions.

Sports Injury Management - Knee reconstructions including anterior cruciate and multi ligament repairs.

All of our surgery is performed in our state of the art dedicated orthopaedic theatre. We have the most modern equipment such as fully integrated operating theatres (OR1), computer navigated surgery, Karl Storz camera systems and right down to the smallest scalpel, we have purchased the highest quality of instrumentation.

Our orthopaedic team from the surgeon that you select, your anaesthestist on the day, the physiotherapist that visits you in hospital and the nursing staff that care for you from the theatre to recovery to the day surgery unit or ward are all highly trained and skilled in the care of orthopaedic patients.
